Who we are
Learn about us
Jaime Aroxa
Master of masters
After years of studying dance with Maria Antionetta, in 1986, Jaime Aroxa created his own dance school in Rio de Janeiro. The school, Centro de Danca Jaime Arôxa, has now taught more than 25,000 students in Brazil and many more worldwide.
Daniel and Carolyn learnt directly from him, performed with him, and taught dance at his school.
Maria Antonietta
There would be no dancing as we know it without her. Maria Antonieta was the creator of teaching Latin dance in group classes. She taught the master of masters, Jaime Aroxa how to dance.
Professionals
Instructors since 2000 & 2001
Both of Brazilian Soul’s lead instructors, Daniel and Carolyn, have years of full-time professional dance instructing experience. Daniel started to teach in 2000 at one of the largest Brazilian dance schools in Rio de Janeiro, and Carolyn started in 2001 at one of the largest Brazilian dance schools in Brisbane.
Dance with your soul
Authentic latin dance with your soul
We believe that dancing in couples is not only when you hold someone to dance steps around the dance floor. For us, dancing in couples is when you embrace someone to share your energy with them. It must be energy that comes from the soul.
Methodology
How to learn to dance
Brazilian Soul’s methodology to teach Latin dance is based on Jaime Aroxa’s dance academy ‘Centro de Danca Jaime Aroxa’ in Rio de Janeiro. It is a methodology that Jaime Aroxa developed in over 20 years of dance instructing to be able to teach people how to lead, follow and use the music as the inspiration to dance.
Carolyn
The Australian who teaches Brazilians how to dance!
In 2005, Carolyn moved to Rio de Janeiro to commence a full-time dance scholarship at the famous ‘Jaime Aroxa Dance Academy’ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She worked 10 – 12 hour days, 6 days per week.
Carolyn is known as ‘the Australian that taught the Brazilians how to dance!’
Daniel
Years of teaching experience in Brazil
Daniel started teaching at Centro de Danca Jaime Aroxa, Rio de Janeiro in 2000. The school arguably has the best teaching methodology and is the biggest dance school in Brazil.
This makes Daniel the only dance instructor in Brisbane with years of actual instructing experience in Brazil.
Helen
Our organiser
Helen is the organiser of Brazilian Soul. Without Helen, we’d be spending so much time trying to get the paperwork organised that we wouldn’t find time to teach and dance!
